Will Mr. Duba shave his head?

Be a part of LCA history and donate now!

Dear LCA Community:

I have been given an exciting opportunity to set up a once in a lifetime fundraiser on behalf of my Laconia Christian Academy junior/senior class. We will be going on a missions trip to Guatemala this coming April 20-May 1. I am writing to ask you to pray about being a part of this incredible service opportunity.

Now, you may be curious as to what this fundraiser includes and why it can only happen once. To be brief, Rick Duba, the headmaster of LCA, jokingly told me that if I were to raise $10,000 (yes… that’s right, ten grand) he would then shave his entire head. Taking this joke seriously, I began brainstorming ways to come up with the money. He then approached me and gave me his word that if I raised the amount needed, he would indeed follow through on his promise. The fundraiser is only available this year due to the shock Mr. Duba will feel after the first strip of his golden locks falls to the floor.

If I reach the goal of $10,000, the event will be live-streamed  across Facebook and Instagram during the Winter Carnival on March 20th. Those who give $50 or more will be entered into a raffle with the opportunity to personally shave a strip of his hair. Those who give $100 or more will be given a free “Bald Duba” t-shirt once his head is shaven. Those who give $500 or more are guaranteed to shave a portion of his head at the Winter Carnival and receive a t-shirt. I have high hopes that, with the love and support of the LCA community, lifelong friends of Mr. Duba, and past alumni, together we can raise the funds we need.

As stated previously, this fundraiser is for the junior/senior mission trip. My class has the privilege of working with John and Donna Reynolds at Cross Commission, a ministry in San Cristobal, Verapaz, Guatemala (http://crosscommission.org/cc/). Our objective is to build relationships with the young people of San Cristobal currently at Cross Commission’s youth center and to provide and install vented cooking stoves and fresh water systems in a small village in the mountains around San Cristobal. Additionally, this experience will strengthen the LCA student community as we serve Christ by serving others.

The total cost of the trip is about $1900 per student. This includes airfare, transportation, and lodging and meals while in Guatemala. It also includes a budget of $6,000 for vented cook stoves and fresh water systems. Our team has already raised about $2,900 and expects to raise more between now and April.  We know that this is an ambitious goal, but we saw God’s awesome provision last year when we went to Rwanda. With enough money raised through this fundraiser, “Shaving Our Way to Guatemala”, we will have the opportunity to fund the entire missions portion of the trip and the ability to help more people than we had planned.

If you wish to contribute financially, please send payment to paypal@laconiachristian.org and include “Shaving Our Way to Guatemala” in the memo or mail a check with “Shaving Our Way to Guatemala” in the memo to:

You can also pay by credit card at the following link: https://laconia-christian-academy.secured.atpay.com/campaign/10k

Due to the fact this is a fundraiser for our missions trip, all donations will be non-refundable no matter the outcome.

Even if you cannot support us financially at this time, please pray for us as we prepare to serve. We have a lot to do in the coming months. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone or email. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my letter.
